Come
to SBYC St. Patrick's Day Party & Membership Mixer!
Come out for some preseason fun, and bring a prospect
to Alison Passeck's house at 8389 Bay Street, Sodus
Point on Friday, March 17th, at 6:30pm - (?). Alison will be serving
foods and beverage appropriate to the occasion, and author Susan
Peterson Gately, who has written a
series of books on Lake Ontario maritime history, sailing, and the
romance of the lake, will speak about shipwrecks on our lake. SBYC Fleet
Captain Tommy Knapp will briefly discuss what some might
describe as attempts at making modern shipwrecks, in the form of all the
exceptional crop of regatta activities we have coming up at SBYC in the
coming year. After the bash we will adjourn to Papa Joe's Restaurant
in the village of Sodus Point where Cross Keys, the band
that played last weekend at the SBYC Winterfest & Snowball, will be
making an encore appearance (by popular demand of the duly impressed Papa
Joe's crowd - great pick Martha!). Check the SBYC Web Site for additional
information, or EMAIL your Rearus Commdorus at RearCommdore@SodusBayYC.org,
OR call Michael at 585-230-5759.
Membership
Mixer at GALLERY BLUE (in Rochester),
Saturday,
March 18th, 6pm
Attend
our Art Gallery Reception & Membership Mixer!
Mark your calendar NOW to come out for a night on the
town, and bring a prospect to the SBYC Reception at "Gallery
Blue". Members Bruce and Zerbe Sodervick are partners
in this newly-opened art gallery, in the Medical Arts Building on the corner
of East Avenue and Alexander St. in Rochester. For an advance look
at the place, check out the gallery's website at http://www.galleryblue.com.
The Soderviks have generously invited us (with prospects) to come out for
a look at their beautiful new space from 6pm to 9pm. Refreshments will
be served at the gallery, and for anyone attending who wishes to, um, hang
out, we are planning to adjourn to the nearby Old Toad Pub afterwards!
Additional info will be provided on the SBYC Web Site, and in a direct
mailing to members. SBYC Social Director Martha Lightfoot
is coordinating this event, having jumped in with her usual enthusiasm
on behalf of the Membership Committee. You can e-mail Martha at Social@SodusBayYC.org
or call her at 315-483-0433.
Membership Committee needs volunteers!
Membership Committee is again looking for volunteer helpers
to assist with our new plan. The following are a few particular areas where
we could use help. To volunteer to join the Membership Committee to help
with the following needs, to pitch in on any of our "events", or to help
in any other capacity, please Email RearCommodore@SodusBayYC.org, or call
Michael Shults at 585-230-5759.
WELCOME WAGONOne of the most important aspects to keeping new members once we get them is to get them involved in club activities, and with other members. Membership Committee needs volunteers to help us welcome and assist new members in getting oriented, comfortable, and known around the club.Ideally, the "Welcome Wagon" volunteer or volunteers would take the lead in organizing the SPRING DINNER (where we welcome new members), and in preparing and presenting member welcome packages (including a custom-labeled SBYC directory, burgee, and other welcome gift or gifts).
WRITERS and STORYTELLERS NEEDEDOne of our goals is to regularly send communications, both to prospective members, and to the boating community as a whole, with items of interest about the club, about boating, and about club and maritime history, as well as just plain talking up all the great things we have going on here. If you can help us create and promulgate Email newsletters to prospective members, and or "press release" type copy to submit to area newspapers, allied organizations, and even (in some cases) to our own membership, please sign up!
PHONE COMMITTEEWe need folks to make calls, to SBYC members and/or member prospects, to make sure they got their invitations, are aware of all the terrific things we have planned, and give them some enthusiastic encouragement to come out and join in the fun!
MAILING HELPWe have lots of printouts to print, copies to copies, envelopes to stuff, and stamps to stick. Can you help?
WANNA THROW A BASH?The days are getting longer, and we only have so much time between now and the time we start partying at the club, but if you have a REALLY great idea for an event or just want your SBYC member buddies (and potential new member buddies) to come to your place, eat your food, drink your booze, and spill on your new furniture, please let us know!
To volunteer Email RearCommodore@SodusBayYC.org
or call Michael at 585-230-5759.
