Challenge Cup
Sodus Bay Yacht Club hosted the 2024 Challenge Cup Regatta. It was a weekend of heavy winds and rain. The one an only successful race was held in the bay and not on the lake. The regatta included XX boats in four divisions with visiting sailors from Newport Yacht Club, Oswego Yacht Club, and Pultneyville Yacht Club. It was also a treat to see two X metres racing on the line in division 1. All in all everyone congregated and had food, drinks, and merriment. We would also like to thank Larry Sill, who served as PRO for this event.
Challenge Cup 2024 was a crazy weather weekend! The weather certainly put the challenge in Challenge Cup. The first day of racing had extremely windy conditions and lots of rain. The bay was a white cap torrent that made even leaving the slip difficult. As such, all Saturday races were cancelled. Sunday's weather was only slightly better. The wind was upwards of 30 knots but there was not any rain. One very fast race was completed but the second race of the day was cancelled due to the force of the wind and many boats bowing out after the first race. In the end, Folks stuck around to hang out at the club and socialize and the cup was decided from one race....Sodus Bay Yacht Club!

The expectation is to race 7 races on Lake Ontario, but it is not out of the realm of possibilities to have a few or all in the bay depending on the weather. Racing will be on Saturday and Sunday and will culminate with an awards presentation Sunday afternoon on the west lawn next to the portico.
